ILFC selects Rockwell Collins' digital in flight entertainment
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (July 22, 2008) - International Lease Finance Corporation (ILFC) has expanded its Boeing 737NG passenger entertainment system offerings to include
the option of Rockwell Collins' Digital Programmable Audio Video Entertainment System (dPAVES™). This offering is in addition
to the already available PAVES analog system.
"With dPAVES, ILFC's customers can take their IFE products to the next level. The digital enhancement of our widely regarded
PAVES system offers solutions tailored to the diverse needs of today's single aisle IFE products," said Tommy Dodson, vice
president and general manager, Cabin Systems for Rockwell Collins. "Reductions in size, weight and power coupled with one
of the most reliable systems in the industry ensure lower life-cycle costs and more operational benefits than existing analog
systems."
The dPAVES system for ILFC will feature the new Broadcast Digital Server (BDS) which replaces the Video Reproducer Unit (VRU),
the Audio Reproducer Unit (ARU) and the Prerecorded Announcement Machine (PRAM). The systems is also capable of hosting the
new Airshow 4200 moving map functionality without any additional units.
In order to provide operational flexibility in dealing with digital content, Rockwell Collins now offers two methods for loading
content: The Flyable Data Loader (FDL) for background loading via Blu-ray disc on the aircraft and Manual Load capability
utilizing Ethernet during aircraft downtime.
The dPAVES system provides up to an 85 percent reduction in volume, a 70 percent reduction in weight and a 75 percent reduction
in power over the analog system.
Rockwell Collins PAVES and dPaves systems are currently flying on more than 1200 aircraft.
