Overview

The Rockwell Collins CS-1420 Omni Receiver Unit (ORU) provides you with limiting, low noise pre-amplification and RF gain control for signals from 0.5 to 18 GHz. It’s typically installed close to the omni-antenna in airborne systems to provide low noise pre-amplification in the omni signal path to set the optimum noise figure and omni system sensitivity. The ORU has two RF inputs that are typically used as an antenna RF input and a BIT/CAL RF input.

The ORU is a simple unit, consisting of one input selection relay, an RF limiter, a preamp bypass relay, a low noise pre-amplifier, one programmable digital attenuator and an output cable driver amplifier. There is an internal RF equalizer to compensate for the RF cable loss across the 0.5 to 18 GHz frequency range. This default configuration is for minimum Omni path noise figure and maximum Omni path sensitivity.
